Cathy Staughton

Dreams are often the catalyst that launches Cathy Staughton into a world of fantasy when making art. They are not only personal dreams that she references but also dreams of friends and colleagues. There is a strong sense of time and place depicted through annotations she documents within the artwork, often seen as a garland around the central image. Visual devices take the viewer to a 'fantastic' place, confronted with characters that take on both menacing and angelic roles. Often Staughton repeats ongoing symbolic characters, for example, Luna Park and robots that she uses as a device to depict her emotional state and story telling ability.
