The Dinner Party / Colour Fields
19 July 2007 - 25 August 2007
Venue: Arts Project Australia
Opening: 18 July 2007
The Dinner Party brings together a group of artists from Arts Project Australia who have created a unique and individual table setting in the tradition of a shared meal.
Created for nine diners The Dinner Party presents a table ready, set and waiting for guests to arrive. While each place setting is unique to the maker the work is united in its simplicity of design and decoration with each setting contains a plate, cup, saucer, bowl, fork and knife. Decorative glazes and under glazes highlight the beauty and subtle nuances of the individual pieces.
Witnessing The Dinner Party is an intriguing series of absent friends whose faces peer out from the walls around the table. These ceramic masks suggest the gathering of individuals that complete the concept of a shared meal.
You too are invited to participate in the celebration of this event with artists Valerio Ciccone, Alan Constable, Paul Hodges, Ruth Howard, Jodie Noble, Cameron Noble, Tim Noble, Rebecca Scibilia and Kaye McDonald.
Working within the realms of the imagination, Colour Fields presents the work of five artists whose relationship with colour is pivotal to their expression and personal language. Utilizing diverse subject matter, artists Alan Roberts, Terry Roadley, Malcolm Vincent, Robert Vickery and Peter Weatherly explore themes both real and imagined ranging from landscapes, figures and books to abstract symbols.
Colour Fields presents us with an insight into the imagination and enjoyment of artists exploring the colour spectrum as distinct from line, form or composition, bringing a sense a freedom and expression to these works on paper and acetate.
