Marjorie Street

29 August 2007 - 13 October 2007

Venue: Arts Project Australia
Opening: 30 August 2007

The sky and grass meet perfectly in Marjorie Street; a fictitious suburban landscape of domestic dwellings. A fantasy and imaginary world based on Chris O'Brien's domestic and external experiences but not necessarily liveable.

Laboured over for long periods of time, O'Brien's processes involve comprehensive planning. His role as architect and town planner are systematic and non negotiable.

Based on real floor plans, collected from real estate agents, downloaded from the internet or photographs taken by O'Brien, he then begins to gather an array of materials to start building. Balsa wood, cardboard and acetate slowly morph into small scale sculptures. Some are falling down derelict houses while others have been plucked out of the "high end of town" but all reflect O'Brien's love of inventing other domestic worlds.
