Private and Confidential

19 October 2006 - 25 November 2006

Venue: Arts Project Australia
Opening: 18 October 2006

Arts Project Australia is pleased to present Private and Confidential, a group exhibition of 12 studio artists from APA. The title of this exhibition, Private and Confidential, reflects the process of selecting the artwork that ultimately forms the concept behind the exhibition.

Staff members of Arts Project Australia were invited to select artwork by one studio artist. This has resulted in a collective selection that reflects a privileged insight into the historical process and contemplative understanding of the artists and their work.

The criterion for the selection was to consider the artistic process and narrative as well as the formal qualities of the work. Staff have provided explanatory texts about the artwork they have chosen which will be included in the exhibition. Most importantly, the selection has remained 'private and confidential'.

The intention behind this exhibition was to encourage the true and individual choice of the selectors in regards to an artist and their artwork; to expose the aesthetic qualities by demonstrating the raw and gritty truth of personal choice. The result is a curious and candid exhibition of diverse images.

Through this process it is anticipated that visitors will gain both an insight into the idiosyncratic approaches to artistic development of the work and the personal aesthetic of the selectors.
