South of the Border

12 October 2005 - 23 November 2005

Venue: Arts Project Australia
Opening: 11 October 2005

South of the Border provides the unprecedented opportunity for our local audience to view first hand this select body of work on its return south from the Sydney Art on Paper Fair.

The Sydney Art on Paper Fair is the premier forum for promoting new and exciting work to our northern neighbour. APA has been a regular participant at the Fair and this year's spectacular collection of recent works by a group of artists from APA was received with great acclaim.

Artists represented in this exhibition have developed their work over many years. Alan Constable builds up layers of paint to develop rich marble-like surfaces of variegated colour. Tim Williams, Robin Plowman and John Northe exploit a reduced linear graphic to reinterpret icons of popular culture including wrestlers and well-known super heroes. Cathy Staughton's multiple layered imagery offers a world where her characters express both endearing and menacing qualities and Chris Mason brings to life some favoured pets.
