Stretch opens our exhibition program for 2008 with works on canvas by four artists from the Arts Project Australia studio, selected by Arts worker Cathy Blanchflower. Each artist's vision is realised through a dedication to process and a sensitive understanding of their chosen medium.
Valerio Ciccone steadily builds up his images with layers of soft pencil work to capture a warm and intuitive interpretation of his subject. Chris Jackson is known for his colourful abstract paintings - interplays between blocks of colour and text which record the specific dates on which he attends the APA studio.
Chris Mason's paintings of airliners and helicopters reveal an intense attention to detail and keen awareness of spatial relationships, while Georgia Szmerling creates a background of flat organic shapes which she then meticulously covers with a fine surface of dot work resulting in a shimmering field of subtle colour shifts and suggested forms
