Ian Gold is an emerging artist whose abstract paintings echo the rhythm and repetition of his process. Gold’s thick layering of rich colour creates depth and texture within his work, often revealing hidden text or figures upon closer inspection. Drawing inspiration from subjects that excite his curiosity, Gold’s work generally alludes to popular culture, animals and the St Kilda Saints. Gold (born 1988) has worked at the Arts Project Australia studio since 2008. He has been included in numerous group exhibitions including Spring 1883, The Establishment, Sydney; Supermarket, Craft, Melbourne; and Down Here, Down Under, Galerie Atelier Herenplaats, Rotterdam. He received an honourable mention in the 2014 Belle Arti Prize and his work is held by the Sydney College of Arts and private collections throughout Australia.
