Congratulations to Arts Project Australia artists Georgia Szmerling, Joanne Nethercote, Lionel Grijalva, Paul Hodges and William Murray who have been successful in their applications for the A1 Darebin Art Salon for 2023!
In its fourth iteration, the A1 Darebin Art Salon is a major community art prize and exhibition allowing local artists and crafters at any stage in their career to exhibit their work in a public art gallery. The exhibition will feature over 150 artists who share a connection to the City of Darebin.
A celebration of art, creative expression and community, this free exhibition will feature a Welcome to Country, light refreshments and the announcement of the A1 Darebin Art Salon Exhibiting Award. The winner of this award will be granted a solo exhibition at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre in 2024. The judges for this exciting award are; Uncle Alan Brown (Gunditjmara elder and co-Chair of the Darebin Aboriginal Advisory Committee – DAAC) Bala Starr (Director of the La Trobe Art Institute at La Trobe University) and Sarah Werkmeister (Acting Curator at Bundoora Homestead Art Centre). Judged by attendees, the exhibition will also features four People’s Choice Awards for photography, painting, drawing/printmaking and textile/mixed media.
The opening event and prize announcement will take place on Saturday 18 March, 2PM – 4PM. Entry is free, but guests are asked to register their attendance here.
The A1 Darebin Art Salon continues until 24 June, 2023.
