In 2019, fourteen Australian and international artists immersed themselves in the Australian Tapestry Workshop’s vibrant studio environment for its annual Artists in Residence program. APA artist Adrian Lazzaro joined the residency to exchange knowledge and skills with other tapestry weavers and engage with local communities. AIR19 highlights the broad scope of mediums explored by the fourteen 2019 artists in residence – from sculpture, weaving and music to drawings and jewellery. The exhibition presents the diverse outcomes as accomplished through the residency program, and how this unique experience has led to the creation of new contemporary artworks with aesthetic, political or social focuses.
While ATW is unable to open their doors, they have provided a virtual tour of the exhibition at the ATW weaving floor. To assist the ATW during this challenging time, they ask that tour viewers with the capacity to do so make a donation of $10.
