The song till the end is Laura Sheehan’s first solo show at Arts Project Australia and explores aspects of Sheehan’s personal experience alongside Sheehan’s interest in the juxtaposition of fantasy and reality.
Sheehan’s vividly coloured images and bold compositions serve to transport viewers through a web of layered narratives by blurring distinctions between Sheehan’s personal and phantasmic experiences, such as one particular work which combines maternal resonances with characters from the Muppets.
The song till the end presents Sheehan’s unique ability to blend diverging subject matter into a holistic image and further highlights Sheehan’s inspiration from both music and collected stills from research animation.
Sheehan has attended the Arts Project Australia studio since 2004 and has exhibited in numerous group shows including ‘Open Windows’, Box Hill Town Hall, Melbourne; ‘Snapshot’, ACGA Gallery, Federation Square, Melbourne; and ‘Melbourne Art Fair’, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne.
The exhibition opens Saturday 18 March and finishes Saturday 22 April. It coincides with group show Home & the fabric of the familiar.
