Memories, at the core of our conscious experience, shape who we are. They are a fundamentally defining feature of individuality. Artists often form complex relationships with the notion of memory, using objects and images that represent the site of the experience as visual language. While imagination allows the memory to flourish and develop, at its essence it remains a constant; tethered to the site. From autobiographical explorations to isolated moments in popular culture, the variations are linked by the meditative action of revisiting, and the collective desire to share.
This exhibition coincides with solo show New Work: Chris O’Brien.
