Under and Over

Join Arts Project Australia (APA) artist Spenser Coombe for a workshop that invites you to notice things around you that overlap and underlap, then draw them.

Spenser will discuss his Under and Over series of drawings which depicts interlacing lines in average daily settings. It includes; a pile of electric cables, a pattern on a mattress, tree branches behind a curvy fence, two seaweeds in the sea, a ladder, and more. Following the talk, we will draw together, with the option to engage in a group discussion prompted by questions posed by Spenser.

This workshop takes place within the exhibition Inside the Inside of a Wave, collectively curated by Spenser Coombe and the APA gallery staff.

About the Artist 

Spenser Coombe is an emerging artist working predominantly with gouache and pencil on paper. Often incorporating maze-like grids and visual puns, the imagery Coombe regularly returns to is laced with humour, which is reflected in the inventive titles of the works.

Coombe has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2014. He has exhibited in group exhibitions in Melbourne and his work is held in private collections.

The Arts Project Australia gallery has accessible toilets in the Perry Street Building. They are located in the northern end of the building. On the upper ground level they are located off the northern side of the service corridor. On L1 and L2 they are located behind blue manual double doors.

Entry 30A Perry Street is wheelchair accessible and offers direct access to the Courtyard, Perry Street Building upper ground and Johnston Street Building upper ground.

Lift access is available to visit other buildings and levels.
