Alvaro Alvarez is an established painter and drawer. In his work, there is an interesting juxtaposition between the painstakingly deliberate and the happy accident. His recent work is often a mixture of drawing and painting, executed after intensive examination of a photographic image which he is attracted to. He combines very fine brushwork and feathery line to create paintings that have an extraordinary delicacy and a haunting ethereal quality. Alvaro Alvarez (born 1965) has been a regular studio artist at Arts Project Australia since 2000, and presented his first solo exhibition ‘Alvaro Going Solo’ at Arts Project Australia in 2005. He has been included in numerous group exhibitions including, Melbourne Art Fair, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne (each year from 2002 – 2012) and Pearls of Arts Project Australia: The Stuart Purves Collection, National touring exhibition (2007-2009). Alvarez’s work has also been acquired by the National Gallery of Australia.
