Working in pencil and colour fibre-tipped pen, Boris Cipusev utilises text as core visual material to create vibrant, colourful drawings. The works are concise and considered, combining enigmatic juxtapositions with poetic resonances. Cipusev, through his methodically constructed, crisp, balanced works, transforms the ‘noise’ of his environment into idiosyncratic, quirky, playful imagery, pushing the words forward with gentle individualism, as if they dance in and out of earshot. Boris Cipusev (born 1988) has been a regular studio artist at Arts Project since 2007. He has participated in numerous group exhibitions both nationally and internationally including Spring 1883, Sydney; Melbourne Art Fair, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne; and Hybrid Making: New work from Australia, Canada and Scotland, Project Ability Gallery, Glasgow. His work is held in the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
