Rebecca Scibilia

Rebecca Scibilia utilises a variety of media for her works on paper, sourcing her imagery from a range of popular culture items such as DVD covers and images from celebrity magazines. Executed in bold texta paints, Scibilia’s images often have an almost lurid colour palette. Catch phrases like “bugger the gym” which she seamlessly integrates into her artwork, are at once humorous and meaningful. Her assured use of texture and colour is evident in both her works on paper and earlier ceramics. Rebecca Scibilia (born 1980) has been a regular studio artist at Arts Project Australia since 1999 and had her first solo exhibition at Arts Project in 2014. She has exhibited in numerous group shows including ‘Hybrid Making’ Project Ability Gallery, Scotland; ‘Heavenly Stems’, Neon Parc, Melbourne; and ‘Melbourne Art Fair’, Royal Exhibition Building. Her work is held in the Leeuwin Estate Collection in Western Australia.
