It is with much sadness that we share the passing of much-loved APA artist Dionne Canzano.

Dionne was a long-time member of the studio community, starting at APA in 2000. She was an accomplished and sought after artist whose work celebrated subjects close to her heart, Elvis Presley and Australian magpies, as well as wild and domestic animals. Although her works possess a soft, dream-like quality, there is also a wildness to the imagery.

Her first solo show was in 2003, with other solo exhibitions following in 2011 and 2020. Her work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions. In the last twelve months alone she featured prominently in the group shows Strange Planet and Devoted To You at Arts Project Australia’s gallery. Her work is held in the National Gallery of Victoria, as gifted by Stuart Purves, as well as corporate and private collections worldwide.

We will remember her quiet, yet determined character, someone who knew who she was and lived with a delightfully confident attitude and strength in her life.

Dionne will be greatly missed by many – the artworld has lost a star and we have lost a dear friend.

Vale Dionne.
