Arts Project Australia offers an online artist program for artists with intellectual disability.

What the program offers

This program supports participants in developing their art practice through an online community.

The program gives artists access to professional mentorship and assistance from a highly qualified team of staff artists.

Participants have the chance to create, discuss, and explore art in a supportive group environment.

The content is tailored to each artist’s personal working preferences, with the option to join both individual and group sessions.

Artists have the opportunity to develop and expand their practice through a range of disciplines, with an optional materials kit available for purchase.

“I asked Mum if there were any new art programs I could join, she found Arts Project’s online program and joined me up. It’s Melbourne-based but I can attend it by Zoom, normally I’d have to go to Melbourne but I don’t have to because I can do it online. I’ve found it really good, they’re very supportive and easy to talk to.”

Kirstie Newcombe, online artists based in Colac

Who can join

The online program is open to any interested person with an intellectual disability.

We are a registered NDIS organisation. Those wanting to use their NDIS funding to attend can access their Core Support budget for Group Activities and Specialised Employment Support.

This program is perfect for those who can’t access our in-person program, or those who attend our studio and want to add extra online sessions to their week. Participants from regional Victoria and around Australia join us online each week.

Artist outcomes

The online program provides a space for artists to work on the following outcomes:

  • Ability to critically reflect on personal art practice
  • Actively engage with creative networks and communities online
  • Critically engage with exhibitions
  • Create finished artworks
  • Set goals for future projects
  • Inclusion in an online group exhibition (private to program participants)

Like other Arts Project Australia programs, art is not taught. Instead, our team of professional staff offer artists feedback, guidance, and advice to encourage finding their own personal style and authentic voice.
