Julian Martin

Julian Martin is an established artist whose practice has evolved over decades from figurative pastel works into a deeply process-driven exploration of rhythm and surface.

Martin’s early pastel works drew on portraiture, still life and landscape representation charaterised by sharp lines and geometric shapes. These pastel forms gradually dissolved over years, with lines softening into abstracted colour fields. In recent years, Martin has transitioned from pastel, through coloured pencil washes into his current focus on graphite. Now working in layered fields, he creates mirror like monochromatic defined by their subtle shifts in density, pressure, and movement.
