Ruth Howard is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting and ceramics. Drawing inspiration from animals and different modes of transport, her paintings distil these familiar subjects into minimal, abstract compositions that explore the interplay between form and negative space. In her ceramic sculptures, Howard transforms organic structures through her expressive application of glaze. Built from stacked layers of coiled clay, the vertical works recall the criss-crossing geometry of tram tracks. Coloured glazes cascade over the surface, following the undulations of the clay and accentuating its folds and indentations.
