Will Murray is an emerging figurative artist working primarily on paper, using mediums such as pastel, gouache, ink, and graphite. With soft pastels as his preferred medium, his works possess a deep sense of character; the outlandish nature of his subjects’ posture and expression lends them an air of intrigue and mystery. Alongside his works on paper, Murray also explores digital collage as a distinct aspect of his practice constructing surreal and fragmented compositions that extend his interest in identity, absurdity, and the human form. Murray has worked at Arts Project Australia since 2016 and presented his first solo exhibition Portraits of Will at Arts Project in 2020. He has exhibited in group exhibitions and his work is held in private collections throughout Australia.
